Abstract

In 2013 archaeological excavation were carried out in the room H-4 at the Cancho Roano building (Zalamea de la Serena, Badajoz, Spain) with the aim of concluding its stratigraphic sequence. The excavation of this space has allowed us to document a oxhide-shaped altar corresponding to phase C of the sanctuary that coexists in the same moment with the circular altar that presides over the sancta sanctorum of the building. The similarities between this structure and other examples of Tartessian religious architecture allow us to present the novelties about Cancho Roano, as well as to establish similarities and new reading about the religious dedication of the archeological site.
